Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

What does Savin Hill Yoga offer to me?

At Savin Hill Yoga, we serve students who are just beginning to practice Yoga as well as those practicing for years. We practice viniyoga, a gentle healing oriented practice. All of our instructors are Certified annd Insured. Our instructors are certified in CPR and First Aid. Any person at any level of ability can benefit from practicing viniyoga with some of our classes oriented toward young energetic students and others oriented toward students in the middle or later stages in life.

Our new studios face east and offer a peaceful, light-filled space for the practice of Yoga. Our floors are covered in 5/8" rubber and they are radiant heated. We have 11 ft. ceilings with fans. We have worked hard to produce a space custom built for the practice of Yoga. Visual art, through on-going exhibitions, is part of our environment for nurturing the mind and body.

What is Ahimsa Studio?

Savin Hill Yoga shares its location with Ahimsa Studio, a fine art exhibition space. Our mission is to provide a venue for the regular interaction of artists, collectors, visitors and others interested in the fine arts and to continue building the arts community in Dorchester. The gallery offers a professional quality exhibition space for artwork of all media. We exhibit works of new and emerging artists as well as new works by established artists. Gallery hours are Friday and Saturday from 3-6pm and as always, we are happy to show works of Ahimsa artists by appointment.

Do I need to pre-register for classes?

No, not at present. You may drop into any regularly scheduled class during the week.

Do you have any special programs?

Yes. We have a program of Art and Yoga planned for the Island of Vieques, Puerto Rico. Come for 7 days of yoga and art instruction on this beautiful Island. College Credit and Continuing Education credits are available for this program through Montserrat College of Art. Call 617-429-9597

How can I sign up?

You can call (617-429-9597) and set up a time to discuss your options for participating in the studio. We also sell tickets and memberships before and after each class. You can purchase a membership or 10 Class Card by phone with your Visa or MasterCard.

What kind of package deals do you offer?

Ahimsa is a small studio. We can accommodate only about 12 students in a class. This is good news in the sense that small classes allow a lot more individual attention for students. In order to insure that you get a place in class it is best to purchase a member card. A member card ensures that as long as you sign in 5 minutes before class you will get a place in class. Members will be assigned a spot in class according to their order of signing in the attendance sheet.

Drop-in attendance$14.00
10-class card (never expires)$110.00
Full-time Students with current college ID$10.00
Seniors over 65$10.00
Monthly membership( unlimited regularly scheduled classes)$80.00
Individual classes by arrangement with instructor

What kind of clothes should I wear?

We recommend comfortable clothes so you can move freely without restrictions. You may also want to dress in layers so you can be warm enough but not too warm as you proceed through your class. Read the class descriptions to determine how warm the room will be kept in any given class.

Do you have mats or should I bring a mat?

You must have a Yoga mat to practice Yoga on our new floors. We have a few used mats available. We also sell new mats. The thinnest mat possible is best. We already have 5/8" of rubber on the floor. Your knees will love it.

How do I get there?
